Hairy biker Dave Myers gives health update amid his battle with cancer as he reveals ‘best friend’ Si King’s thoughtful gesture during treatment

Furry biker Dave Myers has given a health update during his battle with cancer, as he praised his friend and fellow cyclist Si King for his support during his treatment.

The 66-year-old TV chef revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer in May 2022 and is currently still undergoing treatment for the disease.

But on Wednesday morning he revealed he was ‘stable’ and back at work, adding he was ‘really enjoying life at the moment’.

Appearing on BBC Breakfast with Si, 57, Dave said: ‘I’m doing well. I’m still being treated, but everything seems stable.

‘I’ve been cycling with my best friend again, filming, doing the books and back to work. So actually it’s all pretty good. I’m really enjoying life at the moment.’

Dave also opened up about Si’s support during his cancer treatment, revealing that his best friend came over to cook for him.

He recalled: ‘There was a day when I was sick and he came to our house and made minced meat and dumplings for me, but he does it the right way.

“You know, if the bottom of the dumplings is just soft, the top of the dumplings is crispy, and I… I really remember that with mashed potatoes.”

He reminisced, “That was wonderful. There was a freezer full and that was fine.’

Reflecting on their long-standing friendship that has spanned more than 30 years, Si said, “It comes naturally to us. We are good friends, we are part of each other’s families.

‘It’s just the way we are and we don’t really have to try because we like each other.

“We’re very different people, but that’s what friendship is about, because when we see each other you’re constantly bringing something new to the table.”

It comes after Dave revealed his first day back at work ended in a ‘man hug and a bit of a kiss’ with Si.

During an appearance on the Heart Breakfast show, presenter Jamie Theakston asked: ‘How important has it been to have your best friend by your side over the past twelve months?’

Dave responded, “Oh, it’s crucial, my best friend and my family, that’s what helps you, I say it’s a work in progress.”

Jamie joked: “Well, you look good….”

Co-host Zoe Hardman added: ‘I was just going to say how do you feel on a daily basis because you have a real sparkle in your eye today?

Dave replied, “Yes, we’re fine, we’re filming. We have a Christmas special, we filmed a series for next year, it was hard, but when we got back on the bike it was just epic.

‘I remember we were near the Isle of Bute and we were on our bikes for the first time and I’m following the road and the familiar shape I’ve seen over the last twenty years.’

Simon said: ‘It was quite emotional, wasn’t it?’

Dave added: “Yes, we got on the ferry and we had a hug and a tear.”

The Hairy Bikers rose to fame with their popular cooking shows, but have slowed down their busy schedule due to Dave’s health.

Dave, who did not reveal what type of cancer he has, said he has undergone chemotherapy “30 times” in the past year.

Despite pausing their podcast this summer, there’s plenty more to come from the duo as they film a brand new TV series this week.

Dave and Si will star in a BBC Two travel series, Hairy Bikers Go West, which will see the duo travel from Scotland to Devon in eight episodes.

Dave recently described the tearful moment he was able to get back on his motorcycle for the first time since his cancer diagnosis.

He has previously said that at times he was too sick to walk and could not ride a motorcycle because of his health problems.

He recalled the emotional moment as he gave a health update, saying he and Si were left in tears when he was able to drive again.

He told the Yorkshire Post: “It’s been tough but I’m not alone and I’m getting through it and I’m back to work.

‘I had to learn to walk and cycle again, and when we got back on the bike with Kingy in the sun, we had tears in our eyes.’

Si added: “He’s a real scrapper and he’s in good shape. It has been an emotional rollercoaster for everyone who loves and cares about Dave.”

Dave revealed he had bought a new bike in February, a £4,699 RE Bullet Trials 500, and was looking at the vehicle with Si.

Dave shared a photo of the two of them standing in front of his new purchase and wrote: ‘Big step forward getting back in the saddle.

‘Si came with me to check out my new bike, a 500cc royal Enfield bullet trials bike. Very exciting, thank you Arnold’s motorcycles from Burton. I love Dave.’
