A hairdresser has revealed devastating text messages she received from a young employee who missed her shift as she watched her 16-year-old brother suffer a fatal heart attack.

Prue Taylor, who owns the Lady and the Hair Salon in Melton, West Melbourne, told the Daily Mail Australia she wondered why her apprentice Chelsea Goggin, 18, hadn’t turned up for work at 9am on Friday, ‘which was totally odd used to be ‘.

Then she saw a frantic series of text messages from Chelsea, the first being sent 10 minutes before her shift was due to start.

“Call me ASAP,” the first message read.

This was immediately followed by: ‘My brother’s heart has stopped beating and he is not breathing’.

‘I had to call 000’, was the next text for the final text: ‘Mothers are not here yet’.

Ms. Taylor still has the text messages on her phone and every time she reads them, her eyes are filled with tears.

When Mrs. Taylor called Chelsea, she watched paramedics try to resuscitate her brother Nathan.

Chelsea said Nathan was fine on Thursday night, but around 8 a.m. Friday morning, he complained of pain that was “all over his back.”

“I turned to get him water, didn’t even leave the room and he collapsed,” Chelsea told Taylor.

After calling triple 0, the ambulance arrived quickly and paramedics spent two and a half hours resuscitating him at the family’s west Melbourne home in Melton.

They eventually took Nathan to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, while Chelsea waited for her mother Helen Stephens to return from her early morning shift at a bakery.

When Chelsea and her mother arrived at the hospital, they received the devastating news that Nathan would not make it.

“They told us to do an autopsy and test because they don’t know what it was,” Chelsea said.

Doctors think Nathan had a back spasm, which triggered the aneurysm in his heart.

Mrs Taylor now has a GoFundMe page to give Nathan the goodbye ‘he deserves’.

She said the family was just getting on financially after Ms. Stephens separated from her partner, making it difficult to raise the money for a house the couple bought together.

“I feel so sorry for her because they’ve really been through so much,” said Ms. Taylor.

“They have the house. They were really excited. They finally got the funding.’

“They don’t have much. They work so hard for what they do have.

“This was the beginning of their new life together.”

On the GoFundMe page, Ms. Taylor wrote that the family “really started to see the rainbow after the storm and now she is struck by this unimaginable loss… it’s not fair.”

Ms. Taylor said Nathan was a video game player and history buff who was a very good kid.

“He was so excited to get his first job at Kmart Melton,” she said.

“He was the kind of boy who loved school and never got into trouble. He never complained about anything, just a really nice kid with a big heart

“Nathan will be miserably missed by all who knew him.”

Everyone in Mrs. Taylor’s parlor wept as soon as they heard the news.

Ms Taylor said Ms Stephens wants to share the story of what happened to Nathan “because it would make her happy to know that it gives people a better perspective on life and how temporary it can be.”

“She hopes that one person will embrace their children more tightly and realize that not every day is over.”
