Hackham West, Adelaide: Horror as one man found dead and another person seriously injured after suburban house fire

A man has died and another person is seriously injured after a house fire in Adelaide’s south.

Firefighters were called to the Housing Trust home on Amsterdam Road in Hackham West just before 8.30am on Saturday.

They discovered flames and smoke coming from the front room of the property.

The Metropolitan Fire Service confirmed that firefighters removed one person from the burning building, but that person later died at the scene, police said. ABC.

A second person was seriously injured in the fire and transported to Flinders Medical Center.

The residents’ pets, two cats and two dogs, did not escape the fire.

It took the fire brigade about 15 minutes to extinguish the fire.

Neighbor Pamela Jenkins, 70, said Advertiser she saw smoke coming from her back window.

“There was smoke coming out of the house and when I saw it I ran into the street to see if I could help,” Ms Jenkins said.

‘But when I arrived at the house, the street was already closed, and the police, ambulances and fire trucks have already stormed the house.

‘I saw the woman for the first time… she was being taken away by the ambulances and she called to me and said her partner was still in the house.’

“Fire investigators are on scene to determine the cause and damage,” an MFS spokesperson said.

The road is closed at the scene and police are asking pedestrians and motorists to avoid the area.
