Gwyneth Paltrow is setting the record straight after she tricked some viewers about how she’s using her Oscar.
During her appearance in Vogue’s 73 Questions video, the 51-year-old actress and Goop founder made comical use of her Oscar statuette — which she won for her starring role in 1998’s Shakespeare in Love.
But several of Gwyneth’s fans—and even publications—took her at her word that she found a fully functional use for the big acting honor.
However, a rep for the Royal Tenenbaum actress clarified that she was only joking in the video.
“Of course, it’s a joke,” they told Variety on Tuesday, a day after the Q&A in Gwyneth’s backyard was released.

As proof that she treats her Oscar well, they cited a New York Times interview from September 30 of this year in which she mentioned that she keeps her Oscar at her home in Amagansett, New York.
Gwyneth starred in Shakespeare in Love with Rafe Joseph Fiennes as the eponymous playwright and poet, while the all-star cast included her then-boyfriend Ben Affleck, Colin Firth, Judi Dench and Geoffrey Rush.
During a May appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, daughter Blythe Danner opened up about the crisis of confidence she suffered after winning such a prestigious award so early in her career.
“When I won the Oscar, it put me in an identity crisis, because if you win the biggest award, what are you supposed to do?” And where should you go?’ she shared. ‘It was a heavy amount of attention that you get on a night like that and in the weeks that follow, it’s so disorienting.’
She added that the win proved “really unhealthy” for her.
“I was like, ‘This is crazy. I don’t know what to do, I don’t know which way is up.” It was a lot,” she continued. “Not that I would take it back or anything, it was an amazing experience, but it questioned a lot of things for me.”
Vogue’s video included an exclusive look at Gwyneth’s private life, including her incredible Hamptons mansion.

Gwyneth also revealed that her favorite song from her ex-husband Chris Martin’s Coldplay was ‘Life is for Living’.
Although she previously replied that the only thing that makes her cringe in public now is “singing in public”, the actress even sang a few lines from a Coldplay song.
However, she reversed the lines, hilariously remarking “I forgot the words”.
Gwyneth and Chris famously split in 2014 after a decade together and share two children: a daughter named Apple, 19, and a son named Moses, 17.

When Vogue asked her biggest vice, Gwyneth replied: ‘My one alcoholic drink a week.’
The Iron Man star has previously admitted she has cut down on her drinking heavily after spending 2020 ‘seven nights a week’.
As for her virtue, she jokingly replied, ‘Everything else.’
She also admitted that she ‘doesn’t miss anything’ after semi-retiring from acting.
Still, she’s incredibly grateful to have been Holly Holiday on Glee. It was her first foray into television and it eventually connected her with Brad Falchuk, one of the show’s creators, leading to their marriage in 2018.
When asked, “What’s the sliding door moment in your life that you still think about today?” she said, “I guess I said yes to doing Glee.;
And when asked if she was nervous about singing in front of Falchuk for the first time, she answered: “No, because we were just acquaintances then, so it was very professional.”

Gwyneth was game for the interview because it was in celebration of the 15th anniversary of her wellness company, Goop.
She said the brand’s mission remains the same as it was when they started, as they work to “connect people to fantastic information that will make their lives better and more interesting.”
