In an interview with Malfunction magazinethe Spiderwebs singer, 53 – who promotes her beauty line GXVE in London – dished up about life, including her new single True Babe, her upcoming European tour, motherhood and her marriage to Blake Shelton, 47.

“My family broke up and it took me a while to move on to the next part of my life,” she said referring to her split from Gavin Rossdale, 57, with whom she shares three sons.

“Then came the pandemic…but I still wanted to get something out. But then I got married [laughs]and when that happened I felt I really wanted to be in that moment and not rush back to finish the album,” she explained.

And her new single is about Shelton. “He likes it,” she told the outlet without delving further into the Ol’ Red singer’s thoughts.

The Just a Girl singer also talked about putting her new music together, saying, “I also feel like I was really trying to find the record. I started on a route of the style of music I wanted to do, but then found it by living.

And a lot of time went by, so it’s been a few years and now I feel like I’m in this really crazy zone where I’m writing the songs that I wanted to write. It just took a little while,’ she explained.

The Rich Girl hitmaker also explained that she also just needed some downtime, pointing out that she resided in Las Vegas for two years, was on The Voice seven times and has a lot of kids.

“I have three boys and it’s hard to tell it all apart, it’s really hard. I mean, anyone who’s a mom would probably say, “How does she do all those things?” because it’s impossible,’ she said.

The Don’t Speak singer shares Kingston, 17, Zuma, 14, and Apollo, nine, with her ex-husband.

“So that’s why it’s exciting to get to this point where I actually get to put out a little bit of music. I’ve had this new number for two years now! Time goes by so fast. But here we are!’

And as for why she chose the UK for her first shows since her Las Vegas residency in 2021, it’s pretty simple: it was the music London released in the early 1980s.

“The first music I got into that started to build my identity as a human being was when my older brother brought home a Madness album,” she said.

“I know Madness is huge in the UK, but in the US they had Our House and Must Be Love, but they were still underground in that whole scene.

“And so that record led us to The Specials, The Selector and everything from Bad Manners to UB40 and everything we loved that set the tone for the music and our identity as human beings,” she explained.

She continued, “A long answer to a small question, it’s my DNA, and everything I’ve originally been inspired by musically is London, so I have a huge amount of respect.

“Not to mention, the first designer piece I ever accidentally bought, I didn’t even know I was buying a Vivian Westwood at the time,” the fashionista exclaimed.

“It’s almost one of those places you want to impress so much. You want them to like you that way and you love them that much. Just the fact that they know you is exciting,’ they gushed.

So, it’s big for me. To be able to do Hyde Park and be at the show with another incredible performer is going to be crazy. I try not to think about it too much because it makes me nervous, but I’m excited,” she said.
