Matching Aspects: The SoCal native spoke to the live audience and beauty podcast hosts Kirbie Johnson and Sara Tan about her beauty brand GXVE Beauty

Stefani launched GXVE Beauty this year in March, even though she previously filed a trademark for P8NT Beauty in 2018 and had wanted to create her own line for a long time.

“It was a great feeling doing their makeup,” she said. “It would be so much fun to do that to someone and that emotion that they have, that feeling of ‘I didn’t know I could feel or look like this,’ is an incredible gift that I gave them.”

“And then they’re going to give me that back,” he continued. ‘That’s where I came from [up] with the name GXVE, because I feel that makeup is very generous, not only to get what you need in the morning to get going, but also when you share that.’

Later, the beauty icon and the hosts opened up about the impact her music and art have had on feminism.

Stefani explained that she did not realize that impact and how much gender inequality had affected her until the last few decades.

“Even at the time, it was a big deal, but I was never constrained by my gender,” she said candidly. ‘Maybe because I was very naive and sheltered.’

Pattern Mix: The GXVE Beauty founder wore a black and white wavy striped one-sleeved mini dress while speaking in front of a live audience about her makeup line.

She named the culture of growing up in Anaheim with an amazing and protective family as an influence that later led to one of her biggest hits: Just A Girl.

‘One day, when I began to think about gender [and] about me, I remember walking to school [as a] teenager and someone whistled at me or something like that,” he said.

‘I was like, ‘Oh, that’s weird. Do they look at me like that now?’ I’m just a person [and] now they look at me like that,’ he said.

‘There’s a kind of power, but then it’s a kind of [victimization and] I didn’t know what it was,” he said. “When I wrote Just A Girl, I was thinking about that.”

She also talked about how she realized she had a talent for writing music and entered a predominantly male-dominated genre without giving much thought to the disadvantages she might have faced as a woman.

“I was just being me,” she said, continuing to lean into her femininity despite being in an all-boy band.

Highly Anticipated: Stefani launched GXVE Beauty this year in March, even though she had wanted to create her own line for a long time.

“I was just trying to find myself and when I wrote my first song, which I didn’t know I could write and it just kind of channeled through me, that’s when I thought I might have something to offer.”

That path subsequently led her to her beauty brand today. “Everything that followed that, beauty-wise, happened as decoration for the song.”

She said it was a rewarding challenge to come up with a bold makeup line made for performance that is made up of clean ingredients, which was not the initial intention.

Her legacy: Later, the beauty icon and hosts opened up about the impact her music and art have had on feminism.

In response to her many competitors in the beauty industry and other celebrity makeup lines, the Orange County native said her only focus is herself.

“I don’t really care, because I know this is super authentic to me,” she said. ‘I’m the real makeup artist. I don’t care what other people do because I know.

“Everything I’ve ever done has somehow led me to this.”
