Two of Australia’s most famous actors appear to be locked in a long-running rivalry, leaving fans shocked as they had no idea there was ‘beef’ between them.

Guy Pearce posted a series of ‘shady’ tweets about Cate Blanchett after she won Best Actress for her performance in Tár at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Asked by his followers what his problem was with Blanchett, Pearce deleted all offensive tweets on Monday and assured fans there were no disputes.

A little over a week ago, Pearce retweeted a post from the Celebrity Film Awards Twitter account announcing the Best Actress nominees: Blanchett, Ana De Armas, Michelle Williams and Margot Robbie.

Pearce captioned it: ‘Please be Ana De Armas! Incredible performance!’ which seemed innocent enough until the follow-up tweet from him.

When Blanchett won the award for her role as composer Lydia Tár, the Memento actress retweeted the announcement, writing: “Fascinating choice…”

“Oh no thanks,” he wrote.

However, the damage was done when Twitter detectives began digging into Pearce’s past to find out why he seemed to have a problem with Blanchett.
