Gurmantar Gill was riding his bike home from school. He was just 50 metres away when an unimaginable tragedy struck

An 11-year-old boy who was hit and killed by a bus while cycling home from school is being remembered as a talented golfer and “beautiful soul”.

Gurmantar Gill, 11, was just 50 metres from his home when he was hit by a vehicle on Jingellic Drive at Buderim, on the Sunshine Coast, at 3.45pm on Tuesday.

Gurmantar was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he died a short time later.

The boy’s father, Daljinder Gill, said if his son had turned left one more time on his way back from Matthew Flinders Anglican College he would have made it home.

“Yesterday he said he wanted to cycle to school,” Mr Gill said of the sixth-grader.

“We normally pick him up, but yesterday he wanted to drive. I still can’t believe we don’t have him.”

Gurmantar, who lived with his parents and older sister, dreamed of turning his golfing talent into a profession.

He was a member of the Maroochy River Golf Club, where he was coached by John Wright.

“He was a beautiful child,” Mr. Wright said the courier post.

“He’s a guy you always stop and chat with… just a gentle soul.”

Mr Gill said that Gurmantar took part in a competition last Sunday.

“He always took me golfing and I still have those memories,” Mr Gill said.

The bus driver involved in the incident, a man in his 60s, was not physically injured and is assisting police with the investigation.

Another person was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition on Tuesday.

It appears the man was a passenger on the bus.

Witnesses or people with relevant information are requested to contact the police.

A spokeswoman for CDC, the company that operates the bus, said staff were shocked by the incident.
