Netflix has released a stunning behind-the-scenes look at the making of Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming Pinocchio movie.
Shared at the streamer’s annual Tudum fan event, the new footage sheds light on the complex processes involved in producing a stop-motion animated film.
Del Toro himself narrates the two-minute clip, which teases several scenes from the film and will likely have fans waiting even more eagerly for Pinocchio’s December 9 release date. Check out the featurette for yourself below:
As the name suggests, the Netflix film is a retelling of Carlo Collodi’s beloved 1883 fairy tale about a wooden doll who comes to life. Del Toro’s darker take on the story, however, is set in the 1930s during Mussolini’s fascist regime.
Shot in stop motion in a manner similar to a recent Netflix project The HousePinocchio stars Ewan McGregor and newcomer Gregory Mann as the voices of Jiminy Cricket and Pinocchio, respectively, with Game of Thrones alumnus David Bradley in tow as Geppetto.
Ron Perlman, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro and Finn Wolfhard are among the amazing supporting cast of the Netflix movie.
When it comes out on December 9, Del Toro’s Pinocchio won’t be the only Pinocchio adaptation released in 2022. Forrest Gump filmmaker Robert Zemeckis recently brought the age-old tale to life on Disney Plus, although we call the film a “slightly magical remake whose strings eventually hold it in check.” our review.
