According to the developers Grand Theft Auto6 will “push the boundaries of what is possible in a highly immersive, story-driven open-world experience.” But according to a press release shared on December 4 by publisher Take-Two Interactive, this won't happen on PC.
The decision to launch the highly anticipated new third-person action game exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/Series S consoles unfortunately comes as no surprise. Rockstar Games has a history of its PC versions releasing a little later in the development cycle. When Grand Theft Auto 5 launched in 2013, the wait was particularly long, with the New York City-based studio waiting almost 19 months for its release.
Of course it was only once GTA 5 ended up on the PC that had its most lasting legacy carved out. That's when the role-playing scene really took off, with players pushing the boundaries of decency and logic to breathe life into the chaotic streets online. The PC community gave The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim are flying dragons with Thomas the Tank Engine, and Call of Duty are cannabis-powered operators, but alone GTA 5's PC players could have produced Tessa Lamb, the animal-loving driving instructor who is also – reportedly – a serial killer.
Grand Theft Auto6 will be released sometime in 2025. The PC version? A bigger unknown.
