‘Can I go back to my regular job?’: Grumpy Iowa sports reporter groans during live blizzard coverage in hilarious video after being reassigned to morning weather service

  • Mark Woodley was forced to cover a snow storm in Waterloo, Iowa, on Thursday
  • Was forced to cover as temperatures were between -0.4F and -5.8F
  • Cold temperatures and freezing temperatures have swept the United States.

A grumpy Iowa sports reporter moaned through hours of live blizzard coverage after being reassigned to weather duty early in the morning as a once-in-a-generation bomb cyclone tore through the US.

Mark Woodley, a sportswriter for KWWL in Waterloo, Iowa, was clearly unhappy when he was given a live broadcast slot from 4:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

A hilarious compilation of video clips from his coverage shows the journalist making witty comments about the cold while cloaked in sub-zero weather.

Based on local conditions, Mark would have been outside at -0.4F (-18C) at the start of his shift, which dipped to -5.8F (-21C) at the end.

The Twitter clip, which now has nearly 3 million views, begins with his co-host asking, ‘Mark, how are you feeling out there?’ The sports reporter replies: ‘The same thing I felt eight minutes ago when you asked me that same question.’

Cold temperatures are wreaking havoc across the United States, with flights canceled and experts warning that frostbite could affect bare skin in five to 10 minutes.

The sports reporter replies: ‘The same thing I felt eight minutes ago when you asked me that same question. I usually do sports.

“Everything is canceled here for the next few days, so what better time to ask the sports guy to come over, about five hours earlier than he normally would wake up, stand out in the wind and snow and cold and tell others”. people don’t do the same.

As the show progresses, and the weather gets even colder, Mark becomes increasingly impatient with the task at hand.

Dressed in a thick black puffer jacket as snow falls in the background, he continues: “I didn’t realize there was a 3:30 in the morning, too, until today.”

‘I’m used to these late-night shows that are only 30 minutes long, and usually I’m in on those shows. So this is a very long show. Tune in for the next two hours to watch me get more and more irritable.

Mark told Insider that filming took place next to the main news station KWWL, so he could warm up between takes.

Even so, the incredibly cold conditions made the few minutes outside extremely uncomfortable.

He continued: ‘I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that I can still feel my face right now. The bad news is, I wish I couldn’t.

Then, looking even more disgruntled, he said, ‘Can I go back to my regular job? I’m pretty sure they added an extra hour to this show just because someone likes to torture me.

The reticent weather announcer later said he hoped adding some witty comments would make the report more interesting and encourage people to listen and take it seriously.

At the end of his shift, when it started to get light outside, Mark seems much happier at the prospect of going home.

He lives in Waterloo for the last time this morning. Thankfully!’ he said, as he finished his shift.
