Gruesome moment woman’s foot is bent in half while on popular Slingshot ride – as she wonders how it’s ‘still in one piece’
Grim footage has captured the moment a young woman’s foot bent in half during a popular ride.
Pippa Sutherland from Melbourne went to the Slingshot Surfers Paradise attraction on the Gold Coast last month.
Ms Sutherland and her friend were securely strapped into the chairs as they were slowly lowered down by the operator.
She shared footage on her Tiktok, showing her left foot starting to bend after it got stuck in the stopper underneath.
A panicked Mrs Sutherland is heard saying “my foot” as it bends at a dangerous angle.

Realizing that Mrs. Sutherland is in distress, her friend turns the other way and calls to one of the operators, saying, “Her foot!”
Mrs. Sutherland then starts screaming that her foot is stuck as the operators continue to lower the ride forward.
“My foot is stuck,” she said.
Her foot then comes loose, just as it looks like it’s about to snap in half.
“Ouch,” Mrs. Sutherland shouted as the ride came to a stop.
Ms Sutherland suffered an ankle sprain before being taken to hospital for treatment.
Another video showed her staggering out of the hospital with her left foot bound in a black Velcro bandage.
Ms Sutherland said she was surprised her “foot is still intact” in the caption of the video.
Ny Breaking Australia is not suggesting the ride operators are to blame.
Social media users quickly flooded the video with comments expressing shock that the woman was not seriously injured.
‘It looked like it hurt. A lot of. I thought you broke your talus (lower part of the ankle) in half,” one person wrote.
‘Your foot was definitely stuck!!! I felt your pain and screamed for you,” another added.
“Gasped and covered my mouth OUCHHHHHHHHH.”
After the ride came to a complete stop, the horrific moment was captured when Ms Sutherland’s foot came loose from the stopper after resting her leg on it moments earlier (pictured)
In a video uploaded to her TikTok page (pictured), Ms Sutherland was seen limping out of hospital after suffering a toe sprain
Others wondered why the woman rested her leg on the stopper underneath and why she was not wearing shoes.
“Where are your shoes and who left you without shoes on??!” wrote one.
“Soooo common sense didn’t tell you ‘move your foot’?” a second wrote.
“It looks like she didn’t have time to move her foot.”
The website describes the Slingshot as a ride that launches thrill seekers into the air “at speeds of over 100 miles per hour,” allowing riders to “experience the thrill of a lifetime.”
The ride lasts up to five minutes and passengers are launched 90 meters into the air.
There must always be two riders on the ride at the same time before it can be released.
The seats on the rides are attached to steel cables and shoulder harnesses, and a seat belt is placed between the legs over the passenger’s head and chest when they board.
The website states: ‘Riders will experience weightlessness, rapid side-to-side movements and rapidly changing forces.’
