Griselda official trailer: Sofia Vergara is nearly UNRECOGNIZABLE as Colombian drug cartel leader Griselda Blanco in Netflix limited series

Sofia Vergara was almost unrecognizable in the first official trailer for Netflix’s upcoming limited series, Griselda.

The actress plays Colombian drug cartel leader Griselda Blanco in the six-part series that debuts on January 25.

While playing the infamous drug lord known as the Cocaine Godmother, the 51-year-old actress was completely transformed into a Colombian businesswoman.

The series is from the makers of the hit series Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, and the new clip features one of the characters from those series: the Colombian drug lord Hélmer Herrera, played by Alberto Ammann.

In the trailer, you can see the Modern Family alum flexing her drug lord muscles as law enforcement officials talk about how her “deadly” business is “incredibly successful.”

Sofia’s Blanca is seen in the American drug market, which doesn’t go down well with the male drug dealers already there.

A man is seen trying to kill her but fails.

According to Netflix, the bilingual crime series is inspired by the life of the smart and ambitious Blanco, who they describe as a “devoted mother” who “created one of the most profitable cartels in history.”

The synopsis also noted that “Blanco’s deadly mix of unsuspected cruelty and charm helped her skillfully navigate between business and family.”

The rest of the star-studded cast includes Alberto Guerra as Dario, Vanessa Ferlito as Isabel and Christian Tappan as Arturo.

This is Vergara’s first scripted live-action project since announcing her divorce from Joe Manganiello in July 2023 after seven years of marriage.

In 2022, the mother of one revealed it took two hours in the makeup chair to transform into her character.

The career criminal, who stood just five feet tall, was involved in pickpocketing and prostitution from a young age, but it wasn’t long before her crimes began to escalate.

After being introduced to the cocaine industry by her second husband, whom she later murdered, Griselda built a thriving drug empire, earning more than $80 million every month.

She embraced her criminal persona – her nicknames were The Black Widow, The Godmother of Cocaine and The Boss – and was not afraid to flaunt her ill-gotten gains.

“You’ve been thinking about me a lot, haven’t you?” Vergara begins. ‘I heard you liked my product. Together we can make a lot of money’

But things started to fall apart after she was locked up as authorities tried to bring charges against the devoted mother for more than 200 murders.

Griselda spent ten years behind bars before being sent back to Colombia, where she was shot dead at the age of 69 as she stepped out of a butcher’s shop.

She remains among the most notorious drug lords in history and was a central figure in documentaries such as Cocaine Cowboys (2006) and Cocaine Cowboys 2: Hustlin’ with the Godmother (2008) – as well as in the film The Cocaine Godmother (2017) with starring Catherine Zeta-Jones.
