  • Newcastle’s summer signings haven’t worked. It’s crazy to talk about them as an established top four side… Sixth is about right. It all starts

Grimsby loanee Harry Wood marked his debut with an injury-time equalizer in an astonishing 5-5 draw against Notts County in League Two.

The 21-year-old midfielder, on loan from Hull, came on in the 94th minute after David McGoldrick had put County ahead 5-4 with his second of the match.

And seconds later Wood was the hero, scoring with his first touch.

“That was a basketball match on a football pitch,” said a breathless Grimsby boss David Artell.

In League One, Portsmouth were branded ‘terrible’ by manager John Mousinho after the leaders were beaten 3-0 at home by Leyton Orient.

Shaq Forde, Jordan Brown and Dan Agyei scored for Orient before half-time, while Colby Bishop’s missed penalty summed up Portsmouth’s dismal day.

“I thought we were terrible – just a yard away from everything we did,” Mousinho said. “Somehow we’re still on top.”

Peterborough moved up to second place after Ephron Mason-Clark scored twice in a 2–1 win over Charlton.

New Fleetwood boss Charlie Adam’s baptism into management turns into a horror story as League One’s bottom club lost 2-1 in Cambridge.

Sully Kaikai’s injury-time strike gave Cambridge victory and made it three defeats in three games since Adam’s arrival at Highbury.

“There were good signs, but big moments change the game,” said the ex-Scottish midfielder. ‘We have to start winning – and quickly.’
