Quick name change: The 35-year-old musician revealed that her youngest child is now Y, Why or ?

In the profile, she shared that Exa was called Y for short, but that it is now her new name.

Exa refers to the computer term exaFLOPS. Dark means ‘the unknown’. People fear it, but really, it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe.’

Grimes added that Sideræl means the true time of the universe, sidereal time, deep spacetime, not our relative terrestrial time.’

A fan responded to her recent tweet saying, “omg baby sailor mars hiiii,” to which the beauty responded to the fan sharing her daughter’s updated name.

“She’s Y now, or “Why?” or just “?” (But the government won’t acknowledge that),’ she wrote.

Grimes then explained that the child’s name is meant to represent “curiosity, the eternal question, .. and all that.”

She and the Tesla CEO are also the parents of 2-year-old X Æ A-12, nicknamed X, whose name was later changed to X Æ A-Xii because California law prohibits the use of numbers in a legal name.

The couple initially disagreed on how to pronounce the child’s name, and Grimes took to her Instagram to explain. “It’s just X, like the letter X. Then AI. Like how you said the letter A and then me,” she shared.

Couple of things: Elon and Grimes initially disagreed on the pronunciation of their son’s name; seen at the 2018 Space X Hyperloop Pod Competition

However, Musk told podcast host Joe Rogan a different pronunciation of the name. ‘First of all, my partner is the one who actually, usually, came up with the name. Yes, she’s good at names.’

Rogan then asked how to say it, to which Musk replied, “I mean, it’s just X, the letter X. And then the Æ is pronounced “Ash”… and then A-12, A-12 is my contribution.’

Elon has five other children – twins Griffin and Xavier and triplets Damian, Saxon and Kai – from a previous marriage.

He and Grimes began publicly dating in May 2018, but had an on-again, off-again relationship until they finally broke up after the birth of their daughter in March 2022.
