The body of a teenage boy who went missing during a boating incident on Christmas Eve has been found after a lengthy search.

Emergency services were called after reports a 14-year-old boy went missing in the Mary River near Greensill Rd in Owanyilla, 20 km southwest of Maryborough in Queensland, approx Sunday 10.20am.

The boy was last seen falling into the river while tubing and never resurfacing.

Queensland Police confirmed the boy's body was recovered by police divers shortly after 6pm on Sunday.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Police are currently assisting the boy's family, who have requested privacy during this difficult time.

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter had also joined the search at 10.45am before returning to base at 1.30pm after no sign of the boy was found in the water or riverbanks.

“It is believed the teenager was being towed behind a boat, on an inflatable tube, when he fell off and did not resurface,” LifeFlight said in a statement.

Police are currently assisting the boy's family, who have requested privacy during this difficult time
