Grey’s Anatomy actress Caterina Scorsone has revealed that her pets died after her house burned down.
The Toronto-born actress, 41, took to Instagram on Monday to talk about the tragic chain of events that saw her beloved animals perish and her family nearly die.
Scorsone shared a series of photos showing the damage, as well as a series of photos of her four pets who died in the fire.
“My house burned down a few months ago,” Scorsone said. Heartbreakingly, we lost all four of our pets. We still have that loss, but we’re lucky we were able to love them.’
Scorsone, who played Dr. Amelia Shepherd plays in the ABC series, described the series of tragic events.

Scorsone shared a series of photos showing the damage, as well as a series of photos of her four pets who perished in the blaze
“While I was getting my kids ready for bed and finishing the bath, smoke started seeping through the grout around the bath,” she said. “When I looked down the hallway, a river of thick black smoke had already formed and was filling the house.”
Scorsone continued, “One thing about fires: they happen fast. I had about two minutes to get my three kids out of the house, and we escaped with less than shoes on our feet. But we got out. And for that I am eternally grateful.’
Scorsone who is mother to daughters Eliza, 10, Paloma ‘Pippa’ Michaela, six, and Lucky, three, and with ex-husband Rob Giles, said: ‘Thank you to the parents at my children’s school who sent toys and books , my friends at @greysabc and @shondaland who sent clothes and supplies, my sisters who flew in to handle the logistics so I could be with my kids.”
Scorsone, who has appeared in 198 episodes of the Shonda Rhimes drama, said she was heartened by the community’s reaction to the devastating fire.
“This is not a post about a fire,” she said. “This is a post about community. This is a love letter to the incredible people who showed up and the incredible ways they did. Thanks to the fire brigade and the researchers. Thank you to my neighbor who answered our frantic knocking on her door.”
