Billionaire Gretel Packer spends $9 million on an Art Deco home in Sydney she wants to convert into a ‘mega-penthouse’

Billionaire Gretel Packer has spent a whopping $9 million on a spectacular penthouse in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Located atop the Art Deco-inspired Macleay Regis building in fashionable Potts Point, the two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo boasts fantastic harbor views and is adjacent to the sprawling pad Packer, 57, purchased in 2017 for $8.75 million.

The philanthropist daughter of the late media magnate Kerry Packer now wants to turn the two flats into a mega penthouse, reports the Wentworth courier.

The 350 sq. ft. apartment that Packer bought five years ago features three bedrooms and three bedrooms.

Packer closed the deal at her new place this week.

Once joined together, the two apartments will form one huge 865 sqm penthouse, which will occupy the entire top deck of the apartment building.

Packer’s new flat, a charming blend of 1930s elegance and modern luxury, features a beautiful original fireplace, wood finishes and beautiful parquet floors.

Highlights include lofty interiors with floor-to-ceiling glass walls in the living areas, as well as an expansive kitchen.

Built in 1938, the Macleay Regis block was based on the famous Rockefeller Center in New York City.

His family created a sub-penthouse of the existing apartment after he died in 1947.

Packer’s new flat was purchased from London-based banker Greg Peacock.

It comes after Packer made a failed $22 million bid for two adjoining penthouse apartments in the luxury Kings Cross block of Omnia in 2019.
