Greenacre, Sydney: Two close friends are killed after suspended driver crashes into their motorcycle – as ‘reprehensible’ act of their convoy is laid bare

Two close friends who died after a suspended driver crashed into their motorbike in a horror crash have been identified.

William Brown, 26, and his passenger Doey Choi, 24, were thrown several meters after a Toyota Corolla turned at the intersection of the Hume Highway and Worth Street in Greenacre in Sydney’s west about 7pm on Tuesday.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, both Brown and Choi died at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition, where he is now in a serious but stable condition.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden said investigations showed neither driver should have been on the road that night.

The Toyota driver was suspended and Brown was only a provisional driver, meaning he was not yet allowed to take a passenger.

“The frustration comes from knowing that this was preventable,” McFadden said, adding that the speed of the engine was a “significant contributing factor.”

“We have a situation where both the rider and the driver should not have been in that situation, and this reflects the ongoing challenge facing NSW Police.”

The friends were part of a convoy of 40 bikes traveling to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, a popular landmark on a peninsula in Sydney Harbour.

Only two or three riders stopped to help after the crash, McFadden said.

“The lack of human factor among the other members of the group is reprehensible,” the deputy commissioner said on Wednesday.

Worth Street was closed between Muir Road and the Hume Highway after the intersection was cordoned off by police on Tuesday evening.

Anyone with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

It is the second double fatality in Sydney’s west in recent days.

A father and daughter were killed when their shared car veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a Toyota Hilux in Milperra.
