Green Bay Packers ‘have had talks with the 49ers about trading Aaron Rodgers’ despite quarterback’s admission that he wants to join the New York Jets
The San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers had trade talks about Aaron Rodgers, it said Craig box from Fox Sports.
Rodgers stated during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show weeks ago that he intended to play for the Jets this season and wants to leave the Packers.
But Carton began his coverage of his Tuesday show by mentioning that there was a team besides the Jets that Rodgers would be open to playing for.
“Aaron Rodgers would absolutely want to play for this franchise,” said Carton. “The franchise is the San Francisco 49ers.
“They’ve got Trey Lance coming off a broken ankle, they’ve got Brock Purdy who won’t throw the ball until August or September, and they’ve got Sam Darnold. They don’t have a quarterback right now.”
Aaron Rodgers is reportedly interesting for the San Francisco 49ers if he doesn’t join the Jets
Rodgers recently told the Pat McAfee show that he hopes to join the Jets from the Pckers
“Maybe Trey’s going to be a hangover we don’t know about. Aaron Rodgers is from the area and has always said ‘you know I might want to go home one day’, now he also famously said ‘I want to screw it up to San Francisco because I didn’t call me’.
Carton would further state that the 49ers do not have a first round pick due to the amount they gave up in the draft trade to acquire Lance, they also do not have a second round pick due to the trade for running Christian McCaffrey.
He also noted that a trade would likely include the 49ers three third round picks and a first round pick in next year’s draft.
“The Jets don’t know that this third team has had discussions with the Green Bay Packers,” Carton said.
Since the Jets and Packers have been at a standstill for weeks despite reports that the transaction was 99% complete and reportedly even agreed on the core components of the transaction, this information could very well be a ploy on the part of the Packers . to put pressure on New York.
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst recently admitted that the team did not need a first-round pick in the negotiations, saying the team decided to leave Rodgers after being unable to contact him before he retreated into obscurity.
With only 23 days left until the NFL draft, the pressure is slowly building on both sides to finalize a deal and finally move on to the next part of their off-season.
