Great-grandmother celebrates 109 years and says her secret is to ‘be stubborn and keep going’

A great-grandmother recently celebrated her 109th birthday, making her just four years younger than the UK’s oldest living person.

Olive Edwards, a retired teacher living in North Yorkshire, is a mother of two, a grandmother of four and a great-grandmother of six.

When asked what is the secret to her longevity, she replied that it is because she is ‘stubborn’ and has always eaten three meals a day, according to the Meter.

He said that he especially likes to eat salmon and asparagus and drinks a lot of water.

She also likes to spend her time reading, knitting, and sewing.

Ms Edwards said she has reached an incredible age by being 'stubborn' and having three meals a day.

When asked about her healthy eating habits, Olive replied: ‘I always ate three meals a day. Salmon and asparagus are my favorite food, and I always drank a lot of water and still do.’

She also attributes her amazing age to staying active and busy with her hobbies.

“When I was 80 years old, I used to play football and cricket with my grandchildren,” he added.

To celebrate her special 109th birthday, the chefs at Birchlands Care Home in Haxby, North Yorkshire, where Ms Edwards lives, prepared Olive as her favorite meal.

She was also delighted to receive a birthday card from King Charles congratulating her on the historic achievement.

Ms. Edwards has lived through two world wars and has seen the world around her change enormously.

The oldest living person in the UK today at 113 years and 207 days is Ethel Caterham, who was born on August 21, 1909.

Charlotte Hughes holds the title of the oldest person ever documented in the UK at 116 years old.

The world’s oldest living person is Jeanne Calment, who died at the age of 122.

He was born in Arles, France on February 21, 1875 and died on August 4, 1997 in a nursing home in Arles.

On her 120th birthday, she joked: “I’ve waited 110 years to be famous, I’m counting on it.”
