Great British Bake Off: Amos, 43, breaks down in tears as he becomes the first contestant to be eliminated after showstopper challenge

There were tears on The Great British Bake Off on Tuesday as Amos became the first contestant to be eliminated from the new series.

The supermarket manager, 43, became emotional after being told he would not make it to next week after struggling through the showstopper challenge.

The participants were tasked with making an ‘animal cake’, with many of them choosing to make a treat in the image of their pets.

Amos made a cake in the shape of a whale for this task, but failed to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, who told him the cake was ‘bone dry’ and overcooked.

After his elimination was announced, Amos said, “It was the showstopper that stopped my show. As soon as I heard my name, I left my body.”
