Welsh MMA star Jack Shore suffered only the second defeat of his professional career against Brazilian Joanderson Brito at UFC 301, suffering a brutal injury.

Shore, who goes by the nickname ‘Tank’, faced the Briton on Saturday in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Brit went into the match as an underdog and was dismantled within two rounds, with Brito winning by TKO in round two.

The Brazilian aimed for the leg as he found success with early kicks before leaving a huge gash on Shore’s shin.

Despite the Welshman appearing to be moving well, the referee stopped the action when a doctor entered the cage to check on the fighter in round two.

As cameras showed the extent of the injury, commentator Jon Anik and his commentary partners Paul Felder and Daniel Cormier discussed the damage.

Anik likened the damage done to a “bullet hole,” with his fellow commentators agreeing that the fight had to be called off for Shore’s safety.

And this is what the referee did, later confirming that the cage doctor feared Shore had broken his leg.

MMA star Vince Morales took to X, formerly Twitter, to discuss the decision.

He wrote: ‘Cool, so checking those calf kicks doesn’t help either, damn son.’

When asked if he thought it was a previous reopening of the scar or new damage, he replied: ‘I thought it was all swollen from being chewed up before, but it’s hard to say for sure.’

57-0 kickboxer Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson also took to social media to discuss the decision and decided to slam the doctor for putting his finger in the hole.

“Damn, that doctor kept sticking his finger in it,” he wrote.

‘Do you like that interruption? I can’t imagine he could have taken many more…”

MMA fighter Dan Hardy also criticized the doctor: ‘That shouldn’t have been stopped, and that doctor didn’t have to stick his damn fingers in the cut to make it worse.

‘It’s a cut. The bone was not broken. Play on.’

“Come on, it’s just a shin,” joked fellow UFC star Belal Muhammad.

Shore will look to make a full recovery and bounce back from his second professional defeat, but it remains to be seen when he will be able to return to action.
