A grandfather sends videos of himself singing from his care home to his autistic grandson who lives 350 miles away to help him fall asleep.

George Kerr, 87, lives in Renfrewshire, Scotland, at Elderslie Care Home.

Her 13-year-old grandson Keiran Kerr lives more than 300 miles away in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

Kieran, who has autism, has difficulty communicating but has a “unique bond” with his grandfather George, and the pair regularly talk on FaceTime.

On these calls, the musically minded George often sings to Keiran, and the young man loves it.

So last month, staff at the nursing home recorded George singing Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’ to send to Keiran.

Keiran’s mother, Andrea Kerr, 53, revealed that the teen loves the heartwarming video and watches it every night because listening to his grandfather sing calms him down and helps him fall asleep.

Andrea, a civil servant, said: ‘Keiran is George’s only grandchild and they share a very unique bond. They always have.

“They connect through George’s singing; for some reason Keiran always resonates a lot and helps him relax.

“Since receiving the video of George singing White Christmas, Keiran has watched it every night.

‘He looks at it and says, ‘nights, nights, Grandpa, I love you to the moon and back.’

Andrea revealed that Kieran shares his video with his friends and is proud of his singing grandfather.

Kieran is so proud of his grandfather and loves his video so much that he has been sharing it with his friends.

Last month, staff at the nursing home recorded George singing Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’ to send to Keiran.

One night Andrea’s phone died and she couldn’t show her the video and Keiran was heartbroken.

So now it says they have backed up the video on all devices to prevent them from losing access to it.

She said: “The video is her most prized possession because her grandfather is practically her idol.”
