Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks aren’t ‘as big as people think,’ says GTA: San Andreas developer

A former Grand Theft Auto developer has said that the past Grand Theft Auto 6 Leaks are insignificant and only happen because of Rockstar’s secrecy.

In a recent interview with San in the game (through GamesRadar) Grand Theft Auto 3 And Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Developer Obbe Vermeij was asked to comment on the GTA 6 leaks that occurred in September 2022.

According to Vermeij, he was aware of the video being shared online, but did not follow the news closely at the time, simply because “the leaks are usually not as important as people think.”

“That’s because millions of people are waiting for news, and Rockstar isn’t giving them any news,” Vermeij explains.

The developer continues, saying he understands why studios keep quiet about projects: “because when a big company says something, whether it’s Rockstar or EA or Ubisoft or whatever, it gets analyzed and often negatively viewed. It turns into something negative.”

He added: “From their point of view, their best chance is to just be quiet. That’s what they’re doing. It’s unfortunate that it turned out this way, but it’s not all their fault.”

Following the game’s official reveal in December 2023, which confirmed long-standing rumors that the game would feature two playable protagonists, Lucia and Jason, publisher Take-Two Interactive said it was “very confident” in the game’s fall 2025 release date.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, but there’s no word yet on a potential PC release.

While we only got one theatrical trailer, we do know the next big title in cinematic history is coming. GTA series will be set in the state of Leonidas, with players returning to Vice City, which Rockstar describes as “the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series not yet”.
