Graeme Souness fights back tears after raising £1 million in 12-hour charity swim across the English Channel… as emotional football icon, 70, admits ‘the money will never be enough’
Graeme Souness fought back tears as he reflected on a 12-hour swim across the English Channel that raised £1 million for charity.
The former Liverpool star was one of six who made the trip across the Channel on Sunday to raise money for Debra UK, a charity close to his heart that helps people with the skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa.
Souness, 70, who serves as the organization’s vice president, got emotional on talkSPORT when he discussed his fundraising efforts with fellow Mail Sport columnist Simon Jordan.
Souness said, “Simon, the money will never be enough.”
He continued, “You have seen what this disease is. There’s three things, we’ve made them (Debra) money, allowing the scientists to repurpose the drugs.
“And then there’s awareness, which is great because people are now able to participate, want to participate and offer to work in our stores across the country. Just contact Debra and say, “How can I get involved?”
