GPs call My Health Record ‘overhaul’ and even more instructions

The Australian government has not pushed to raise my health record financing

An organization of GPs in Australia has called on the federal government to upgrade the country’s digital health records system.

“We are calling on the Federal Government to review My Health Record to improve its usability for Australians, GPs and other health professionals,” said RACGP President Dr. Nicole Higgins said in a statement.

This is because RACGP has found in the first result of its annual survey that almost a third of Australian GPs rarely or never use My Health Record. More than 2,000 GPs are surveyed every year in RACGP’s Health of the Nation survey.

“My Health Record cannot fulfill its potential to be the one-stop store for Australians’ health records without investment to improve its usability,” Dr. stressed. Higgins.

She emphasized that My Health Record should capture more patient information and make it easier for GPs to search, as well as ensure data interoperability and timely notification when patient records are updated. Dr. Higgins also recommended implementing automation tools to make the system more ‘usable’, especially when capturing data from GP records.

Recently the country The Productivity Commission found that My Health Record was “plagued by incomplete data and poor usability.” Last year, the Strengthening Medicare Task Force also called for modernizing the “clunky” digital health records system.

CALHN digitizes the treatment process for breast cancer

As part of ongoing initiatives to digitalise cancer treatment pathways, the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN) has introduced digital pathways for breast cancer patients.

The dedicated patient journey, powered by Personify Care, provides remote symptom monitoring and early clinical risk detection, with the aim of reducing unplanned hospital visits.

This digital project is part of CALHN’s CAN Connect virtual nursing service. CALHN used digital processes for the first time in 2021 by trying out the Personify Care platform in twenty specialties.
