Goulburn Weir gyrocopter crash: Two onboard after light aircraft plunges to the ground

One person has been killed and another seriously injured after a light aircraft crash landed in central Victoria.

The aircraft, a gyrocopter, is believed to have crashed on a private property on the corner of Snipey Rd and Murchison-Goulburn Weir Rd at around 7.15am on Sunday.

The plane’s yet-to-be-identified pilot died at the scene while the passenger was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is understood the two people who flew the gyrocopter over Goulburn Weir before got into trouble and crashed.

The aircraft is a type of helicopter that does not use an engine to turn the rotor, but instead uses airflow from beneath the cabin to provide upward propulsion.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident is urged to contact CrimeStoppers.

More to come.
