Gordon Ramsay leaves Italians furious after revealing his twist on a spaghetti carbonara

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has angered Italians by putting peas in a spaghetti carbonara dish.

The TV chef, 57, added the quintessentially British vegetable to his version of the Italian classic, spaghetti carbonara.

However, the popular pasta dish is traditionally made with guanciale or bacon, pecorino cheese and egg.

The extra ingredient of peas infuriated Italians and carbonara fans, with some begging Gordon to never cook pasta again.

The £15 dish is served at his Gordon Ramsay Street Pizza restaurants in the UK.

Italian Juline Marconi furious: ‘For God’s sake. Guanciale, egg and pecorino, it’s not that difficult.’

Compatriot Sandro Luc added: ‘I love Gordon, but this is not carbonara.’ Amedeo Emmolo said: ‘Please remove this and never cook pasta again.’

Brit Chris Bane said: ‘That’s not a carbonara on any level.’ Connor Musson said: ‘What is this abomination of Italian food. Shame Gordon.”

Another person joked: ‘I’m not even Italian and I’m offended.’ While someone else added: ‘Do people have to pay for that?’

Another said: ‘RIP carbonara.’ Meanwhile, someone else joked: ‘Gordon isn’t afraid of Italians.’

It’s not the first time the celebrity chef has faced criticism for some of his culinary creations.

In June, the Hell’s Kitchen star was blasted for his new breakfast burger with a runny fried egg inside.

A month earlier, Ramsay was branded stingy for serving just six chips with a steak at his Heddon Street Kitchen.

The 57-year-old’s Instagram account boasted about the grilled flat iron steak, served with chunky fries and luxurious corn chimichurri sauce.

It costs £19.50 at his eatery Heddon Street Kitchen in posh Mayfair, west London, but foodies were all quick to say the same thing about the lack of fries.

The meat is sliced and the sauce is drizzled over it with a salad garnish, but there are only six chips piled in a tower on the plate.

One commenter on social media said angrily: ‘Six chips, get out. Who are you kidding? Give me a plate of it.’

Another joked: ‘How tight on the chips? I had fish and chips there and thought the fish had eaten the chips.’

A fellow follower wrote: ‘Looks good but I’d like more than six chips please.’

Brandon Larnell said, “Please don’t make my fries look cute and put more on the plate.”

Diners have called a Gordon Ramsay burger a ‘bloody mess’ because cheese is sprinkled on the bun, making it difficult to eat

Another – named Patrick – exclaimed: “Six fries?” Jean said, “Cool, where are the rest of the chips?” Christie added: ‘Six chips? I would turn the table over.’

The steak and fries include a starter or dessert as part of the price.

The summer menu costs GBP 19.50 for two courses or GBP 24.50 for three.

But it is only during weekday lunch and afternoon hours and not available for groups larger than 12 people.

It comes after diners branded a Gordon Ramsay burger a ‘bloody mess’ because cheese has been sprinkled on the bun, making it difficult to eat.

The dish – which costs £18 according to the online menu and comes with fries – is filled with a double beef patty, American cheese, onion and Sriracha mayonnaise.

The TV chef is selling the Next Level Burger at nine Street Burger restaurants in the UK, but foodies on social media have slammed the meal online.

He promoted the dish in a social media post and shared an Instagram reel with his 17.3 million followers.

In the clip, the burger is also topped with a spoonful of mac and cheese.

‘Treat yourself this weekend with a delicious Next Level smash stack at @gordonramsaystreetburger!!’ wrote the cook.

Commenters, however, didn’t seem very impressed with the offer.

“Looks like a mess,” one person wrote, smacking the sauce and toppings that appeared to be spilling out of the bun.

“It looked beautiful until you put that white stuff on top,” another added.

Another wrote: ‘Making a burger that isn’t easy to eat shows a fundamental misunderstanding of a burger.’

Elsewhere, one person simply instructed the chef to “start over.”

‘Looks delicious, but how should you eat it?’ one commenter wondered. “Way too messy to pick up and eat,” another commented.

Others also took issue with the price, adding that it was expensive for Britons going through a cost of living crisis.

“I’m sure it tastes good, but I don’t think the wallet will agree.”

Still, some fans were more convinced, saying the meal looked “stunning” and “incredible.”
