In an interview with CNN, Texas Congressman Troy Nehls called host Erin Burnett a “young lady” before referring to the channel on “Clinton News Network.”

Following an 11th round of voting that failed to produce a new House speaker on Thursday, Nehls spoke with Burnett about his strong support for Republican leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy.

Burnett, the OutFront host, asked Nehls if he was prepared to continue voting in the coming days as Republicans try to reach a consensus on who will become the next House leader.

Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) called CNN anchor Erin Burnett a “young lady” and referred to her network as the “Clinton News Network” during an interview Thursday night.

Burnett spoke with Nehls, a member of the Freedom Caucus, who nominated McCarthy on the floor before the third round of voting on Thursday.

“I’m a combat veteran and I served in law enforcement for 30 years,” Nehls said. ‘I can be here until July.’

It was Nehls who rose to nominate McCarthy for the third round of voting on Thursday.

Burnett responded: ‘Is this a metaphor for how you feel about this? …isn’t there anything I can break or shake (your support for McCarthy) right now?’

Nehls then responded, “Listen, I don’t know if you know this, young lady, but I’m also a member of the House Freedom Caucus.”

‘So I’m one of those America First patriots. I’ve told my friends, my colleagues in the Freedom Caucus that I don’t think this is the battle we should be fighting.

“I think the real battle starts when we start writing laws and policies in the 118th Congress under President McCarthy,” he said.

Burnett then said, “I guess when you called me a young lady, it was a compliment.”

Of course it was. This is my first time on the Clinton News Network,’ Nehls said.

To which Burnett replied, “Okay, I’ll say that was a bit rude in my opinion.”

But I’m glad you’re talking to me and I’ll treat you with the respect you deserve, he added.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy thanks Rep. Troy Nehls following the latter’s nominating speech for the third round of speaker voting on Thursday.

McCarthy failed to get the necessary votes from his own caucus to become Speaker of the House this week. The House adjourned on Thursday night after another long day of voting.

Burnett, a Texas congressman and former sheriff, said he disagrees with the “Never Kevin” sentiment shared by some members of the Freedom Caucus.

The House adjourned once again Thursday night, ending a third day of the 118th Congress without a speaker in place.

Lawmakers voted to cancel it after four rounds of voting since noon and will pick up where they left off Friday.

Before the shutdown, rumors had begun swirling within the Capitol complex and beyond that struggling leader McCarthy was on the brink of negotiating a deal with the 20 reluctant Republicans who have cast votes against him for the job. principal.

McCarthy has so far lost an historic 11 rounds of presidential ballots, the most since 1859.

McCarthy has reportedly made some major new concessions to his 20 detractors, including a move that would allow a Republican lawmaker to spark a vote for a new House speaker, according to CNN, known as a motion to vacate the seat.

In addition to the motion to vacate the chair set to a vote, McCarthy also promised the Conservatives votes on border security and term limit legislation.

He has also reportedly agreed to give more seats on the House Rules Committee to members of the hardline House Freedom Caucus. The powerful panel acts as a gatekeeper to any legislation that is introduced.
