Google has finally spilled the beans on the upcoming one Pixel8 phone launch, and we know that the Pixel 8 Pro And Pixel watch 2 coming early next month. On October 4, Google will finally unveil the new devices, according to messages on Google’s Instagram account and online store.
While Google has been quiet about its upcoming flagship phones so far, notices are being posted today Created by Google Instagram account confirmed the two new phones and showed off a Pixel 8 Pro and a Pixel 8 in Porcelain White and Rose Pink color respectively. The two phones can be distinguished by the extra camera lens on the back of the Pro model and the smaller size of the base model.
Also, the Pro model seems to have an extra feature on the camera bar, compared to both the Pixel 8 and the older Pixel 7 Pro. Leaks have suggested this could be a temperature sensor, which could even be used to monitor a person’s body temperature, among other things. Otherwise, there are no significant new features to distinguish from the 360-degree view in the Insta post.
The Pixel 8 has rounder corners, and that’s about it
The design of the new phones seems slightly updated compared to older models, with a bit more roundness on the corners. We’ve heard the screen will be flatter than before, but that’s hard to say based on this preview. Overall, the phone seems organically smoother than previous Pixel designs.
Still, this is unmistakably a Pixel phone, for better and for worse. The same camera bar is present, with the same overall Pixel look. Hopefully the pink color is a sign that some cool color options are on the way, but leaks haven’t suggested anything too exciting. Expect shades of blue, white, gray and maybe green.
The Pixel Watch 2 also appears briefly if you follow the link to the Google Store website. Google’s latest wearable looks almost exactly like the older model, so it’s unclear what we’ll see in the next new watch. While Google acknowledges that the Watch 2 is coming, this could be an image of an older device.
For example, we may not see the full size of the screen. The Pixel Watch had a larger bezel than most competitors, and that would be a marked improvement for the second generation. Each Apple Watch seems to keep shrinking the bezel, so the same should be true for Google’s wearable. Hopefully, we’ll see more of that display literally on October 4.
Official word on the Pixel 8 after accidents and leaks
Of course, if you follow Google news closely, this comes as no great surprise as Google has been the ‘victim’ of some suspicious accidents and leaks in the past week or so. The phone was briefly posted by Google itself, after which a phone feature simulator went live showing the Pixel 8 Pro’s new feature and sensors.
Is this a marketing ploy? Did someone flip the wrong switch too early? Be that as it may, Google is not bothered by it.
Unlike Apple, which shrouds products in extreme secrecy, Google isn’t normally shy about talking about new stuff. It’s more of a surprise that we’ve NOT heard from Google about the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro before. We still haven’t heard much, of course, but Google will use your email address if you want to sign up for more information at a later date.
We’ll be there when Google launches its next big thing, and hopefully it will be a satisfying follow-up to the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, some of our best camera phones yet.
