Google has already been a leader in AI features, introducing a suite of “Help Me” tools like History Search, Tab Organizer, Tab Compare and more. It added these features, plus Gemini AI and AI-generated wallpapers, to its Chromebook Plus line, showing the tech giant’s willingness to improve its laptops.
It looks like Google is launching a new AI feature for Chromebook’s ChromeOS called BlueBuddy, an AI assistant designed to understand and fix connection issues with Bluetooth devices. According to Windows ReportHints of this new AI assistant can be found in commit messages and will ask users to “file an issue and I will recommend a fix.”
The new page may be called “Troubleshoot with AI,” and will include other options like Adapters, Devices, and Debug logs. It’s unclear whether this AI feature will come to all Chromebooks or just the Chromebook Plus line, but we’ll likely find out soon.
Google does AI right
Google has a wide range of AI tools and features tailored specifically to its products, including Help Me Hands-Free. one of the best applications for AIIt is an accessibility tool that allows users to navigate ChromeOS without using the keyboard (e.g. through voice commands, gestures, facial features, etc.).
However, it’s not the only or best part of how Google is handling AI compared to other competitors. One is the price of Chromebooks, which remains under $1,000 for even the most high-end models, keeping AI affordable for most people. Then there’s the fact that Google is trying to mitigate the huge resource costs of AI features by allowing for both local and cloud storage when using those features.
Speaking of wasteful, Google’s ChromeOS updates are quick and easy, and don’t impose minimum requirements that would cause an unmitigated ecological disaster, as would likely happen if Windows 10 users were forced to upgrade to Windows 11 and then leave behind their old, still-functional devices.
Google may not have all the solutions yet, but as a company it is doing an excellent job of pushing for a better AI future.
