Google’s full Pixel 9 series may have been revealed three weeks early, thanks to a new major leak

Google’s Pixel 9 series is expected to be unveiled soon, on August 13, 2024, but that hasn’t stopped leaks from hitting the internet. News site 91mobiles recently shared marketing materials for the smartphone line, revealing many key details.

The design of the three models largely matches the descriptions mentioned in previous reports. According to the screenshots, each smartphone has polished metal sides with a matte back panel. Android Headlines indicates that there will be four colors available at launch: Rose Pink, Obsidian, Porcelain, and Hazel.

Around the back is that protruding camera island. And while we’ve known for a while that the lens array inside varies from phone to phone, we now have a better idea of what to expect. The leak claims that the standard Pixel 9 will have just a 50MP wide camera “and a 48MP ultra-wide lens.” The Pixel 9 Pro and XL have the same pair, but add a 48MP telephoto sensor.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will also have three lenses, but reportedly with lower resolutions. It houses a 48MP main camera, a 10.5MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10.8MP telephoto option. Additionally, the front-facing selfie cameras differ between the four. The Pixel 9 has a 10.5MP camera, the 9 Pro and XL models have a 42MP lens above their displays, and the 9 Pro Fold “will have a 10MP selfie shooter.”

Hardware specifications

Under the hood, each of the Pixel 9 smartphones will reportedly be powered by the Tensor G4 chipset; however, the amount of memory will vary. The standard Pixel 9 is said to come with 12GB of RAM, while all others could have “up to 16GB of RAM.”

Whether this will result in a significant performance boost over the Pixel 8’s Tensor G3 remains to be seen. Previous rumors suggested it would be a “smaller upgrade than originally planned,” but others have claimed it will offer “a 15 percent performance boost.” Benchmark tests discovered last month suggest the former is true. The results for the Tensor G4 weren’t bad — they just don’t indicate huge improvements over the previous generation.

While no resolutions were mentioned, the leak suggests all four models could be slightly better than the Pixel 8 series.

Google has stuck with the Actua displays, but this time around they’re bigger. Both the base and Pixel 9 Pro phones have 6.3-inch displays, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL has a 6.8-inch display, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s outer display is a 6.3-inch Actua Front. Open the foldable phone and you’ll reveal a whopping 8-inch Super Actua Flex display.

Functions

As for the features, Circle to search is coming back, and so is Gemini. The screenshots show that buyers will get a free one-year subscription to Gemini Advanced, which is a nice value.

91mobiles also highlights two new key features. Emergency SOS protects you from malware and phishing attempts, and notifies you of nearby fires, floods, and more. Then we have Pixel Screenshots, which is being described as a “watered down” version of Microsoft Recall.

This allows users to store information about an image that they might want to remember later. At first glance, it seems like you can manually add text descriptions to images, but without more details, we can’t be sure.

We’ll just have to wait until the next Pixel event on August 13th. However, we’re at the point where we know very little beyond the fact that we got our hands on these phones. As always, take everything in this leak with a grain of salt.
