Finally, Google has confirmed the launch date for the rollout of the ‘Find My Device’ network. According to a report by 9To5Google, the American tech giant has sent an email to select users informing them that the Find My Device network will be launching soon.

Google announced Find My Device Android device tracking network last year. The feature is said to help users locate missing phones, headphones and other devices, taking advantage of the network between Android devices. The Find My Device network was due to launch earlier but was delayed as both Google and Apple collaborated on the project to ensure the technology is not misused to stalk and track someone else’s movements.

According to the report, several settings options were rolled out earlier this week to select users enrolled in the Google Play Services beta. However, the network itself is not made available. The report states that a few users received an email from Google stating that the network will launch “in three days.” The email also mentioned the benefits of the upcoming feature.

“The new Find My Device network allows you to locate your devices even when they are offline. You can also find all compatible Fast Pair accessories when disconnected from your device. This includes compatible earbuds and headphones, and trackers that you can attach to your wallet, keys or bike,” Google said in an email, according to 9To5Google. “You will receive a notification on your Android devices in three days when this feature is enabled. Until then, you can unsubscribe from the network via Find My Device on the web,” the company said.

Google shared a link in the email that allows users to unsubscribe from the network.

When you open the link, a pop-up notification will appear that says: ‘By using the Find My Device service, you allow Google to use location data, device information, and connection events to locate your device and accessories. The location of the device is approximate and may not always be accurate.”

However, when you try to locate a smartphone (disabled) from the web page, it appears that the device cannot currently be reached. When testing on another device to find another smartphone, which has also been turned off and inactive for a week, the web page displays the location accurately. It looks like progress has been made and Google is now ready to roll out the Find My Device network.

The early preview is now accessible to select users in India and shows that it will allow users to remotely play sound on the device to find its location. In addition, there are other options such as ‘Secure device’ and ‘Reset device to factory settings’.
