- Google has released the 2024 Timeline update, a Spotify Wrapped-style summary for Google Maps
- The summary uses location data to show the countries, cities and places you visited in 2024
- You can also see how much time you spend on certain activities
Google is introducing a summary of users’ travel history in 2024, using Google Maps’ timeline history feature to create a Spotify Wrapped-style summary of each user’s trips, road trips, and total distance traveled.
The summary, somewhat tastelessly called the “2024 Timeline Update,” allows users to view their travels over the past year, as recorded by the Timeline History feature in the Google Maps app.
The summary, shared via Gmail, tells the number of countries, cities and individual places visited, using photos from around the web to illustrate your chosen locations.
It also presents graphs showing the distance traveled while walking and driving, and uses your location history to estimate how much time you spent on various activities, such as shopping and dining.
For those not satisfied with pedestrian units of measurement such as miles and kilometers, the summary also tells your total distance traveled as a multiple of the Earth’s circumference.
The summary ends with a smaller image showing your all-time stats for the countries and cities visited, so you can see how much you’ve added over the past year.
We previously reported that Google has started preparing users for changes to the Timeline History feature, such as moving this data from the cloud to specific devices and automatically deleting it after three months. This also means that location data will no longer be shared between devices in the future.
If Android Police reports, if auto-delete is enabled, it will affect the amount of information shown in the 2024 timeline update.
