The Google Pixel 9 line only released last month, but we’re already hearing about the Google Pixel 10, as codenames for four phones in the series have leaked.
Android Headlines claims the Pixel 10 itself is codenamed “Frankel,” the Pixel 10 Pro is codenamed “Blazer,” the Pixel 10 Pro XL is codenamed “Mustang,” and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is codenamed “Rango.”
As far as we can tell, these codenames are references to horses – a mix of breeds and specific racehorses. So the implication may be that these phones will be fast, but it’s probably not worth reading too much into the codenames.
Essentially, this leak mainly tells us that there will likely be four Pixel 10 models, with Google offering the same selection of phones as it did this year. The supposed addition of the Pixel 10 Pro is particularly notable, since the compact Pixel 9 Pro is functionally a new addition to the line, so there was no certainty we’d see that model carry over into a next-gen model.
If you want a big screen, you need a big budget
Unfortunately, this leak also suggests there won’t be a Pixel 10 XL. So you’ll likely be able to get a high-end phone with a small screen (the Pixel 10 Pro), but you might not be able to get a lower-end phone with a big screen.
Sure, a Pixel 10 Pro XL seems likely, but it would have been nice if Google had offered a big-screen Pixel phone for those on a budget.
In addition to the Pixel 10 codenames, the site also claims that the Google Pixel 9a is codenamed Tegu, which refers to a type of lizard. This has been leaked elsewhere before, though, so it’s not new information.
The Pixel 9a is all but certain to be the next Google phone to actually hit the market, with the phone likely to be unveiled at Google I/O 2025 in May.
As for the Pixel 10 series, those phones likely won’t be released until August, so we’ve got a long wait ahead of us.
