Newly discovered evidence suggests that Google Photos may be getting a new tool that will make it easier to hide photos that contain certain faces. Android Authority discovered details about this update after reviewing the latest Google Photos patch on Android.
As the publication explains, the current method requires you to select a person’s face in the People section and then tap on the three-dot menu. This process will be further streamlined in the upcoming patch, as faces are already highlighted. All you have to do is open an image and then bring up the aforementioned People section. Just like before, tap on the three dots next to the icon, where you select “Hide face from Memories”.
There you have two options. You can either block the other person from your account completely or make them appear less often in the Memories archive. Additionally, users get new choices within the three-dot menu. You can also edit the label of the image and change it to a different label or change the cover image on a photo.
These are small changes, yes, but Android Authority claims they make the process a lot easier. You no longer have to jump between images to hide a single person in multiple photos, and users also don’t have to go through the app’s settings menu to hide files in bulk. It can all be done easily from the People section.
Imminent release
Since the tool was discovered in the files and not in the app itself, it is currently not available to anyone. However, the publication has successfully activated the revamped process on their smartphone, so a release could be coming soon. Screenshots show a feature that looks finished, but we wouldn’t be surprised if there is more work to be done.
The publication believes that the patch could be rolled out within the next “weeks or months at most.” As with any leak, you should take this information with a grain of salt.
