Google just gave you more reasons to hold onto your original Pixel Watch

The first-generation Pixel Watch has finally received the Pixel Watch 2's Do Not Disturb (or DND for short) and Bedtime Mode sync tools after several weeks of waiting.

These were originally announced in early December as part of a Pixel function drop, but for whatever reason didn't come out alongside everything else. If 9To5Google points this out in its reportperhaps Google just wanted to wait until the new year to release the patch, as the publication confirms the two are currently being rolled out.

If you're not familiar with either, Do Not Disturb and Bedtime Mode work much the same, with some minor differences. The former allows users to do that silence all app notifications and incoming calls with the ability to create exceptions for certain contacts or alarms. Bedtime mode does the same while also turning off the always-on screen at night, so you can rest without a bright light next to you.

Plus, these features are “synced across all your devices,” so you can also mute notifications on your smartphone by simply activating Do Not Disturb or Bedtime Mode. To enable them, you'll first need to open the Pixel Watch companion app and then go to the Notifications option under the Do Not Disturb & Bedtime section. According to 9To5Google, this is after the list of “on/off app warnings.”

Potential updates

The publication goes on to say that this update is a “server-side addition,” meaning the tools will be added to your smartwatch automatically. You don't need to download anything. Keep an eye out for the patch when it arrives.

What's interesting is that, according to the report, the Pixel Watch should get a “trio of Pixel Watch 2 features,” but we only see two. It's entirely possible that a third one will be added to the older wearable – it could be an extension of the Safety Check tool. However, if Android Central states, the missing third feature may be Watch Unlock, which came out on time in early December. This allows owners to unlock their Pixel smartphone with their Pixel Watch without having to use their biometrics.

It is unknown whether the older model will still get something from the Pixel Watch 2. The rest of the December update consisted mainly of cosmetic changes such as new watch faces and complications.

If you're looking for a Google wearable but don't want to spend nearly $400 for it, you can check out the original Pixel Watch for $280. This recent upgrade allows it to deliver a user experience on par with the Pixel Watch 2. If you want other options, check out Ny Breaking's guide to the best smartwatches for 2024.
