Google just gave us our first look at the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and confirmed its new long name

Google is either getting ahead of itself or just wants to get ahead of more leaks. Just a few hours after gives us a first look at the Pixel 9 ProThe tech giant has shared another teaser confirming that the second-generation Pixel Fold is coming.

The teaser, titled “Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold,” confirms the new name and gives us our best look at the device yet. It shows off the internal main display, the hinge, and the rear, which shows off a redesigned main camera module.

Of course it is also becoming increasingly Google Gemini and shows off the likely headline feature with “Oh Hi, AI” on the screen. Ahead of the device, Google is also showing off its generative text capabilities.

The biggest reveal from this teaser, though, is said to be confirmation of the Pixel Fold’s new naming scheme, which aligns the Pixel Fold with the rest of Google’s smartphone family, as well as some of its hardware. Notably, the thinner horizontal camera bar that resembled the Pixel 8 or Pixel 7 on the original Pixel Fold makes way for a square camera bump housing dual rows of lenses, a flash and a microphone.

Like the Pixel 9 Pro, the redesigned camera bump appears to be quite thick, preventing the Pixel 9 Pro Fold from sitting flat on a tablet like the original Pixel Fold and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold. The rest of the design lines up with previous leaks of the device, suggesting Google is trying to strike a new chord with the second-gen phone.

One thing I’m not sure I can wrap my head around is the updated name – the Pixel Fold 2 not only rolls off the tongue better, but it’s also considerably shorter. Still, if the leaks are to be believed, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold should have larger displays on the front and inside like the Galaxy Z Fold 6, faster processing for a more responsive experience, and enough power for those new AI features.

You can watch the teaser in its entirety above. Google also updated a teaser page on its online store , which mentions the standard Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold and lets you sign up for more details.

Thankfully, you don’t have to wait much longer, as Google is expected to officially unveil the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, along with the Pixel 9 Pro and likely a few other devices, at its August 13, 2024 event. Ny Breaking will be on site to unbox everything once the time comes.
