Google is finally ready to make Chromebook apps easier to use

Although users of the best Chromebooks have access to three types of apps – web apps running through the Chrome browser, apps in the Google Play Store, and apps running in the Linux development environment – they can often be disorganized and difficult to find. However, a brand new online store will now make that task much easier.

According to 9to5Googleit looks like Google will launch the online tool App Mall, with which Chromebook users can find new apps. Currently the App Mall is in early testing and locked behind a flag in chrome://flags, but we do know that the Mall will eventually link to a Discover.apps.chrome website (for now the site is not live).

So far, we can assume that this new App Mall will initially include Android, web and gaming apps as these are already included in the built-in ‘Explore’ app. Later we should get other features as well.

Google continues to improve Chrome

This new App Mall is a feature that has been long overdue. While there are plenty of benefits to using Chrome OS, the app system is by far the worst thing about the operating system. It’s incredibly difficult to navigate and find the apps you want, despite the plentiful options available. Hopefully, once this new store opens to the general public, this will be a much-needed improvement for Chrome.

This isn’t the first major improvement made to Chrome recently, either. Googling enhanced capabilities on the device for Chrome on iOS and Android devices to display search results when your internet connection is not optimal. It also means you’ll get better suggestions when you use Incognito mode.

Other search improvements are also coming, including past results that will affect your current search once you reopen a tab. For example, if you search for “Japchae” on Google, it means that the next time you open a new search tab, you will see these search results, but also “People are also searching for” suggestions.

Google has been updating its services across the board, be it Chrome OS, Google Search, wearables, and more. It’s nice to see the tech giant improving its services by improving constantly used features or creating new ones.
