Google is bringing its AI-powered Circle to Search to older smartphones β here’s why it matters
Google has announced this Circle to search will roll out to its older and mid-range Pixel devices from March 27. Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the AI ββfeature is coming to βmore Pixel and Samsung phones, foldables and tablets.β
Circle to Search is out Samsung Galaxy S24 series and the Google Pixel 8 Pro And Pixel8for the older ones Google Pixel7 And Pixel 7 Pro in the Pixel feature drop from March.
Google is now starting to add Circle to Search to the entry level Google Pixel 7a, which is expected to be followed by the Google Pixel 8aalong with older models such as the Pixel6, Pixel 6 Pro and the budget Pixel6a. Google Pixel Fold and Google Pixel Tablet will also receive Circle to Search βin the coming weeks.β
Several older Samsung devices should also receive Circle to Search from this week via an update to One UI 6.1. As reported by Android Central, this includes last year’s Galaxy S23 series. Both Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, as well as the Galaxy Tab S9 series of tablets, will also receive Circle to Search.
It’s unlikely that older phones from the Pixel 5 line or further back will get the feature, as OS support for these models has ended.
To use Circle to Search, all you have to do is press and hold the Home button to activate an overlay that allows you to circle with your finger the element you want to search for. The AI-powered search should then identify what has been circled and return relevant search results for that topic.
It’s good to see that Google isn’t holding back its advanced AI features from older and more affordable devices, and is allowing more Pixel users to get their hands on Circle to Search without forcing them to upgrade.
