  • Couple escapes from daycare through fence

Extraordinary footage shows the terrifying moment two young children run onto a busy road in front of traffic after escaping from a nearby daycare centre.

The unaccompanied duo were caught on Monday climbing through a hole in a broken fence at Goodstart Early Learning Blair Athol and running towards Main North Road in Adelaide’s north.

They drove onto the road, which is known as a notorious accident spot, and traffic had to slow down to avoid hitting the children.

Moments later, we saw several staff members running into the road in panic after realising that their young charges had escaped.

A teacher ran into the road and pulled one of the children to safety when a car stopped in front of them.

The terrifying scenes unfolded before the eyes of shocked bystanders and residents.

George Mavromatis heard the screams of the staff across the street.

“This is a really bad intersection. We’ve seen a few car accidents. It was very fortunate that we got out of there unscathed, to be honest,” he said. Nine news.

“I have a two-year-old and a four-year-old and yeah, wow. I go home and give them a hug when I get home from work.”

At that time, three teachers cared for nine children.

Reportedly, staff conducted a security check of the outdoor playground but did not see the gap in the broken fence as the fence was covered with bamboo.

The center has since apologized to the children’s parents.

The incident is currently under investigation by the centre and the Education Standards Board of South Australia.

Other parents at the daycare were shocked by what had happened.

“That’s not good,” one person told Nine News.

‘But I’ll wait and see what they say, I don’t know the whole story yet.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Blair Athol Goodstart Early Learning for comment.
