Movies seem to play a key role in the selection of well-read books, as dozens of said books had blockbuster adaptations.

Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies (and A Husband’s Secret, which is currently being adapted and will star Blake Lively) is one of the books on the list.

The book was adapted into a film by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and won dozens of Emmys and Golden Globes thanks to its A-list cast, including Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep.

Little Fires Everywhere, also edited by Reese Witherspoon, made the selection, as did Celeste Ng’s first book Everything I Never Told You.

Where the Crawdads Sing – which was made into a film starring Daisy Edgar-Jones – Girl on the Train (a film starring Emily Blunt) and Lesson in Chemistry – the adaptation of which is currently on Apple TV were all among the titles .

Goodreads, the world’s largest site for readers and book recommendations, determined the list based on the number of readers who marked the books Read, Currently Reading, or Want to Read.
