A Good Morning Britain regular was rushed to hospital last week after a nasty accident on the London Underground.

Iain Dale was taken to St Thomas’s by ambulance after the scary incident at Charing Cross station.

The LBC presenter, 60, revealed he had suffered a badly broken hip and would require surgery – while thanking the doctors and nurses who helped him.

He wrote on Twitter: “What news. This afternoon I tripped at the top of an escalator at Charing X Tube.

“I was taken to St. Thomas by ambulance. I have a badly broken hip. Replacement surgery scheduled for Monday. Fantastic care from everyone here.

“Big shout out to the all female paramedics led by Nicole and Poppy who looked after me and helped me out of the station.

‘And to Reda, Maverick and the lovely London Underground staff at Charing Cross. So impressive and caring.’

Updating followers after his surgery on Monday, Iain added, “Had a hip replacement and all is well!

“Went in at 8:45am and woke up at 12am. The pain is gone. So happy & relieved! What a top hospital this is.

‘So many nice messages from friends & complete strangers, it’s all a bit overwhelming! PS 5 hours after the operation they have me on my feet!’

He was visited by his on-screen partner Jacqui Smith in the hospital after surgery, who took a photo with him in his bed.

Former Interior Minister Jacqui said: ‘He’s alive, he’s in good spirits, he’s on his new hip. He is very impressed

@GSTTnhs (but not the food). We talked about a few intimate details, but no bed bath was administered!
