Golf legend John Daly smashes a drive over the street while smoking during wild NYE celebrations
Golf legend John Daly marked the end of 2024 in typically subdued fashion, driving down the street while smoking a cigarette.
The 58-year-old, who has earned a cult following for his eccentric antics – both on and off the court – enjoyed a boozy party on New Year’s Eve.
Daly was seen having drinks with friends and his 21-year-old son, John II, as the clock ticked into 2025.
The two-time major champion also took to the sidewalk with his golf clubs. With a cigarette in his mouth, Daly pulled out his driver and hit a ball across the street and toward a set of buildings on the other side.
“Teein’ it into 2025,” the 58-year-old wrote alongside the video, which he posted to his Instagram story on New Year’s Day.
The soundtrack of the clip was ‘Hit It Hard’, the 2010 song released by Daly. In the video, he hit a ball through a hole in the sidewalk.

He could then be seen looking at oncoming traffic with a cigarette hanging from his mouth and his gold shoes glinting in the streetlight.
Once the coast was clear, Daly hit the ball into the night sky as spectators cheered and hollered and high-fived the golfer.
Daly is a two-time major champion, winning the PGA Championship in 1991 and the Open Championship in 1995.

Daly’s outfits and diet have become legendary, with the 58-year-old once revealing he was nicknamed ‘camel’ because ‘I never drink water’.
He explained, “I can’t stand drinking water. I drank twelve to twenty Diet Cokes a day and went to McDonald’s three or four times a day. To me, they always had the best fountain drink.”
He added: ‘I drink about five liters of whole milk a week. I like to mix Hershey’s in my vitamin D milk,” he said, before being quizzed about his love for McDonald’s and Burger King.
“Burger King, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, I love them. I used to be able to eat two Big Macs, two or three cheeseburgers, chocolate shakes, and regular Coke while sitting pretty comfortably… I don’t eat spinach beans, broccoli, or things like that. When I was young, my dad shoved it in me and I had to throw it up.”
