Golf fans react to Rory McIlroy’s bombshell divorce U-turn as many make US Open prediction
Fans on social media reacted to the news that Rory McIlroy has ended his divorce proceedings with wife Erica Stoll.
McIlroy’s attorney, Thomas Sasser, filed a notice of voluntary dismissal on behalf of his client at the Palm Beach County Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon.
The court responded by closing the case, meaning the 35-year-old golfer will have to start from the beginning if he changes his mind about the divorce.
This comes less than a month after Stoll, 36, was served papers at the couple’s home in Jupiter, Florida, informing her that McIlroy wanted to withdraw from the marriage.
It also comes two days before McIlroy is set to tee off the first round of the US Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.

Hopefully no one is going to try to convince me that the PGA doesn’t have a script this year…it’s like a poorly written soap opera at this point.

I can’t imagine being with a man who is accused of cheating on someone he often sees at work, and the whole world believes that, whether it’s true or not. That’s some power,” wrote LPGA golfer Jenny Shin.
