Golden Globes nominations 2025: Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are rewarded for their starring roles in Wicked as they join Cate Blanchett, Selena Gomez and Demi Moore among hopefuls – but Gladiator II is brutally snubbed
If it feels like the dust has only just settled on awards season, that’s because it has.
But with Christmas approaching, one of the busiest programs on the showbiz calendar is ready to return — starting with the 83rd annual Golden Globes on January 7.
And with the nominations in 27 categories announced Monday afternoon, Wicked co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were among the first names out of the hat.
Grande – who earned her first-ever Golden Globe nomination – appears in the Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture nomination category thanks to her role as Galinda Upland in the fantasy drama.
The versatile star will compete alongside close friend Selena Gomez for her role in Emilia Perez and Margaret Qualley, who won universally positive reviews for body shock horror The Substance.
Isabella Rossellini also reprises her role in Concave, as does Zoe Saldana (again for Emilia Perez).

There’s another British face on the list, with Gary Oldman’s starring role in the Disney+ series Slow Horses earning him a well-deserved nomination, while Hiroyuki Sanada and Billy Bob Thornton win the honors for Shōgun and Landman respectively.
British Netflix drama Baby Reindeer was also recognized, with the Richard Gadd-written show appearing in the Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or Television Motion Picture category and lead actress Jessica Gunning being named Best Supporting Actress – Television.
The show will compete with the hugely popular Ripley, controversial biopic Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story, True Detective: Night Country, Ripley and The Penguin.
