Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner opens up about plans to the knot with Theresa Nist in January: ‘In your 70s, the clock ticks faster’

Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist opened up about their decision to exchange vows this coming January during a new interview with People that was released on Friday.

The 72-year-old reality TV personality and his 70-year-old fiancée got engaged during the Golden Bachelor finale, which aired last Thursday.

The media figure, who proposed with a ring worth $40,000, and his wife-to-be subsequently announced they would tie the knot during a live and televised wedding ceremony on January 4.

Turner started the interview by explaining why he wanted to have a wedding ceremony just a few weeks after getting engaged.

'If you're in your twenties and you put something off for a year, that's a very small percentage of your life. When you're 70, the clock ticks faster,” he said.

The retired restauranteur, whose wife Toni died unexpectedly in 2017, then added that he was “100% sure I had found the right girl for me.” So it's like, why not?'

Nist then discussed her excitement at the prospect of marrying Turner, who she described as “the man of my dreams.”

She noted; “It wasn't our original timeline, but to get the wedding of our dreams? Spectacular, incredible, wow!'

The reality TV personality's fiancée was previously married to a childhood sweetheart named Billy, whom she tied the knot with in an impromptu wedding ceremony in 1972.

Turner then stated that his intention was for his fiancée to enjoy the planning process of their upcoming wedding ceremony.

“Since she was given a rush job the first time, I wanted her to enjoy all the anticipation and joy… it doesn't sound like she's being cheated on,” he said.

Nist added that she had a feeling her upcoming wedding ceremony was “going to be incredible.”

The reality TV personality went on to say that, like his fiancée, he was primarily concerned about each other's well-being.

Turner's fiancé concluded the interview by stating that while their respective experiences with loss brought them closer together “initially,” they had since learned to focus on their future as a married couple.

'We don't talk about careers. We don't worry about how we're going to pay the bills. We talk about what we're going to do to have fun… everything is different. The level of excitement is different,” he said.

Nist then noted that while “there are serious moments, we laugh so much together.”

'That was the basis that formed a band, but it is certainly not that. It's about how much we care about each other. It's very natural,” she said.
