An Aussie Gold Hunters presenter's dog was shot dead by a police officer after attacking his colleague and a suspect during an arrest.

Police were about to put handcuffs on a man in his 30s at a home on Stratton Boulevard in Perth's northeast at 9.30am on Tuesday when the bullmastiff attacked the alleged perpetrator and the female officer.

A male officer then fatally shot the dog, whose name was Monty, to “prevent further injury” during the altercation.

Monty belonged to former Aussie Gold Hunters personality Rob Dale, who was not home at the time according to a female resident who spoke to police.

The arrested man was bitten on his legs, while the female officer was bitten on her legs and one hand. Both were taken to St John of God Midland Hospital.

A shocking video emerged of police repeatedly punching a man during an arrest outside a popular pub.

A resident of the house, who did not want to be identified, said he burst into tears after hearing that Monty, the “sweet big giant”, had been killed.

“I knew the dog, it's devastating, it's horrible, he's just doing his job…why should he be in that environment,” he said told the West.

A sign hung above the front door of the house warning visitors to “Beware of the Dog.”

The male resident described Monty as having the attitude of a 'chihuahua'.

The man's partner said she had seen 'piles of cars outside the house before at least one person was arrested earlier in the morning.

“It's very disturbing, I have children and the neighbors have grandchildren… this is not necessary in the suburbs or anywhere,” he said.

Police confirmed in the afternoon that a second man had been arrested at the same house, which was also linked to their 'ongoing investigation'.

The female resident of the home was not taken into custody, a WA police spokesperson said.

He played alongside Rob 'Turbo' Linton and the pair were known as The Gold Timers.

The couple once dramatically stopped a suspected thief from stealing $500 worth of gold they were expecting.
