Woman, 33, shot in the back while helping someone move house is identified – as cops hunt for a mystery man amid strange new details

A seriously injured woman who was shot in the back remains on life support, surrounded by loved ones, as the suspected gunman remains on the run.

Linley Anyos, 33, was sitting in a blue Volkswagen Jetta outside a house on Trees Road in Tallebudgera, on the Gold Coast, when she was shot about noon on Wednesday.

Police suspect the shot was fired from the back seat of the car.

Detectives have not ruled out the possibility that the shooting was an accident and are looking for a man, believed to be known to Ms Anyos, who was at the property but left before emergency services arrived.

The relationship between the suspected shooter and Ms. Anyos is unclear.

Ms Anyos was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition, where she remained on Thursday.

It’s clear she’s in intensive care with her family at her bedside Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

Police and forensic investigators remained at the crime scene on Thursday.

No arrests or charges have been filed and the firearm used has yet to be located by police.

It is understood Mrs. Anyos belonged to a group of people who were helping someone move at that time.

“It is my understanding that the car has been parked in the same spot for a number of hours,” Detective Mark Mooney told reporters on Wednesday.

“We have called in the homicide squad because the victim’s injuries are critical and we don’t know at this point if she will survive or not.”

Before the shooting, dozens of people had gone to the house to pick up free furniture advertised on Facebook Marketplace.

At least ten people helped the police in their investigation on Wednesday.

“Everyone has been very compliant at this point,” Detective Mooney said.

“Eight to 10 people went back to one of our stations to make statements.

“We’re also hunting for people who have been here before, people who may have seen or heard something, or spoken to certain individuals while they were here, or who had video or CCTV cameras.”

It is believed there was another person in the Volkswagen Jetta at the time of the shooting.

“Our forensic examination of the vehicle is still ongoing,” Inspector Mooney said.

“It appears the victim may have been sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle and was shot through the seat.

‘I understand the car has been parked in the same spot for a few hours.

“She arrived on scene with some of our witnesses who were helping (people) move.”

Police has called on all witnesses who left the scene before the arrival of the officers to come forward.

“We would like to speak to anyone who was present to provide us with any information we do not yet have,” Inspector Mooney said.

‘It will be a complex investigation.’

He emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the population.

‘I don’t think there is any need to alarm the community about this. At this time, the exact occurrence of what happened is unknown to us. We obviously encourage our community to remain vigilant,” Inspector Mooney said.

Neighbors were shocked when they returned home to find their street had been cordoned off by police.

“The police who arrived basically wrapped themselves around the residents when we arrived so we didn’t see much,” one resident told Nine News.
